Face/Off Illusion

I think this is a great example of the “good from far, but far from good” principle. All you have to do is stand back from your monitor about 8-15 feet while looking at the image. The email credited Phillippe G. Schyns and Aude Oliva of the University of Glasgow as the creators.

It is interesting to note that the thumbnail preview of this image has the faces switched, and moving closer or further from the screen does not change that. Also, I can see the switch somewhat by removing my glasses; I am nearsighted with an astigmatism.

  1. Pretty interesting stuff. Makes me wonder how many hot chicks I could have had just by staying in that 8-15 feet range…
    Check this shit out.
I’ve had laser eye surgery. I have one “reading eye” and one far sighted eye.
Staring a little over one foot away, the picture flip flops for me depending on which eye I have open. (Both eyes, forces my far sighted eye to dominate.)

  2. Huh, I’ve never heard of laser surgery that makes one eye nearsighted for reading and the other farsighted, for bionic man style telescopic vision. How does this affect your depth perception? Seems like it would be rough on it. Do you wear glasses to make both eyes even out?

  3. Yeah, I was able to see the difference just by lowering my glasses. Same nearsighted problem. So it’s not really the distance that matters. I’m able to see it with squinting, too.
