Kwik-E-Mart

For the Simpsons movie, several 7-11s have been converted to Kwik-E-Marts. Finally, a reason to go to Burbank! And there’s one in LA, too. They’ve got all sorts of cool Simpsons products, like Frosted Krusty-Os, Squishees, Buzz Cola, and doughnuts with pink frosting and sprinkles. If they have half a brain, they’ll stay like that forever. The page for the photo set lists several other locations, so cross your fingers, maybe there’s one in your area of the country.

  1. You know, I saw this on CNN and wondered if I’d get in trouble for calling the Indian/Hindu guy behind the counter “Apu”.
The nearest 7-11 to me is run by just such a stereotype.
Can anyone confirm if they have the balls to make the Kwik-E-Mart switch with just such an employee?

  2. I think if you went to one of the converted 7-11s that are now cash machines for their owners, you could call the guy Marge and there’d be no complaints.

  3. Cool link.
I’m no expert although I do BELIEVE to have seen every episode.
One where Apu has a different job would have been from a Halloween special, since they mixed up reality frequently on those ones.
But all I remember off the top of my head is when he lost his job and Homer had to go to India or something to try to bring him back because it was his fault he got fired.
Although now that I think of it. CAN he lose his job? Is he the OWNER of the store or just an employee? I seem to remember him claiming to be the owner, in which case I’m pretty sure you can’t be fired as the owner????????

  4. Hmm, that’s a good point. But you can lose your franchise rights, which might be similar. Then he’d have to switch to a Quick Stop. That would be a great episode – the clerks open a Quick Stop across from Kwik-E-Mart.

I don’t remember any career change for Apu. The biggest episode that comes to mind is when he cheats on his wife.

  5. Does anyone remember if his wife ever worked in the back of Kwik-E-Mart? Makes me think he ran the store by himself. Or it’s family-run. And I do remember them having a ton of kids on one episode.

I’ll definitely have to check the 7-11 (or Kwik-E-Mart!) out on Venice in LA. The Flickr photos showed a line coming out the door. Must have been the grand opening make-over.

BTW, has anyone Simpsonized themselves yet? The results can be pretty accurate. 🙂
