Have You Seen This Film?

I’m preparing to make my annual top 10 film list, and there are a number I still haven’t seen yet. I am choosing from the Academy’s list of eligible films. From that list, I’ve selected a number of films that I haven’t seen, but have a shot at my personal top 10. Maybe. If you’ve seen any of these, please leave a helpful comment like, “dude, I can’t believe you haven’t seen this you must be retarded or something but seriously, it is awesome and totally hardcore!!!”. Or “d00d this is sux0rs and if you like it you are totally of the ghey and retarded”. I anxiously await your insight!

  1. See Babel.
Children of Men and Pan’s Labyrinth arent on you list but I would also highly recommend those two as well.

  2. Thanks, I’ll make Babel a priority. I’ve already seen Pan’s Labyrinth and plan to see Children of Men this week.

  3. Saw Apocalypto last night. Wife picked it out. I tried to explain to her that it didn’t really look to me like her kind of movie, but she wouldn’t hear it. Overall, pointless. GREAT movie, well produced, insanely good casting and such, but no freakin point to it! Ok, maybe there was, but my first question when it ended was “what was that all about”, to which the wife responded “I have no idea”. Sure, there where a few mildly compelling sub-plots, and the lead character seemed to have been assigned his antagonist as expected, but past the whole “savage people can be poopy” bit, it really seemed like a great pile of film in need of a bit more story.

I enjoyed the hell out of “The Holiday”, another one chosen by the wife. Most of the critical reviews of this movie looked to be more based on jealousy than anything else. Very little about this movie needed improvement in my opinion, except maybe Jack Black’s GF in the movie (Shannyn Sossamon) could have had a sexy shower scene, but not with Jack, sorry buddy.

  4. Too many people are asking this question after watching Apocalypto: “Great movie but what was that all about??”

I will be placing a link here to my “Apocalypto for Dummies” entry. It’s about time. And no, I’m not talking about the Mayans having a great calendar and timekeeping culture.

    Education. It’s the CT mission:

  5. Hey Archangel, thanks for the link to ‘The Fountain.’ Could you do the same for Apocalypto? I don’t think I have edit-capability on your articles.
