I could be completely delusional in believing this, but I've heard the drums translate fairly well. For newbies, the drums are the hardest to pick up, but I've seen my brother, who can play real drums, instantly do well on RB drums his first time playing. Other friends have demonstrated similar prowess. The question is, does it go the other way? My hunch is yes, but you probably pick up a lot of bad habits without a real instructor. But at the very least it should improve your sense of rhythm/timing.

On everything else I totally agree, including vocals (which is what I do since I'm inept at the other stuff). However, I haven't heard anyone say that RB/GH players think they can play real instruments; I guess I'm not paying attention to the media. I have said, after seeing an awesome display of rock band prowess, I wonder where he'd be if he put all those hours of practice into learning an actual instrument.
