Knights of Cydonia – Muse

If you’re in a hurry just go down to the link and watch this amazing video to a song by a group called Muse.

But if you’ve got a moment… well,

Something weird is going on.

I send this music video out to a few friends and then some coworkers. It seems EVERYONE likes it.
Now, I know my music tastes are not of the norm and I’m used to preaching about obscure bands only to get snubbed, but this time… they agree?
Let me elaborate. Just to show you the diversity level of the listeners who said they liked this video and song.

There’s me: industrial/old-school punk rock
My wife: 80’s hair-spray metal
My sister: industrial/electronica
My sister’s fiance: heavy metal

You get the idea. Different tastes, yet all have expressed desire to go see Muse in concert.

This makes me second-guess my tastes, yet I can’t help it. Muse knows how to cater to many different audiences.
I consider them the “modern-Pink Floyd” the way they experiment with sound. Some tracks are straight rock. Some are full electronic (which makes me wonder what the drummer does when they’re playing electro-songs on stage.)
Most tracks are somewhere in between.

SO… onto this cool video.

The theme is future cowboy, kind of like Stephen Kings Dark Tower series.

Other obvious nods you may notice while watching;

Buck Rogers
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Battlestar Galactica
Black Belt Theater
Planet of the Apes
Dragon Ball Z

Enjoy!

(and if anyone could tell me, honestly, that this song sucks… it would make me feel better.)

  1. Inspired by the video and your post, I listened to the whole album. The rest is similar in style to “Knights”; almost a concept album. Rhapsody classifies it at “Brit Rock”, which seems appropriate enough since I hear elements of Pink Floyd, Queen, The Who, and The Stone Roses. Worth a listen.
